This bundle includes both the Echo Plus Bluetooth speaker system and the Echo Plus. The microphone on each one is highly sensitive, so it will pick up your voice from across a room. This isn't my favorite device, but I've purchased both before just to expand Alexa's capabilities. It does everything it needs to do, and the sound quality isn't bad either.
The included Echo Plus can be used with any Zigbee products that have the Alexa skill through the skill hub, so you can connect it to lights, locks, thermostats, and more. The name Zigbee may be foreign to some of you, but it's an international standard for low-powered wireless networks and has been around for years.
The speaker is a Bluetooth-powered, high-output speaker with a frequency response of 50 Hz to 20 kHz, so it will have no problem delivering the full range of sound for your music or online streaming services like Pandora. Although it lacks Wi-Fi, it does have a cellular network which means you can get more coverage out in the yard or in other rooms of the house.
You can ask Alexa to arm and disarm the system, turn on and off lights, set timers and alarms, and control any other smart home devices that have an Alexa skill. Being an Echo device, it will speak all the usual commands and can play any music with Amazon, Apple, and Spotify.
The other big feature is the Alexa Drop In which lets you call anyone who has also enabled the skill – even if they can't pick up the phone when it rings. It's a device that will be handy for when you have that situation where grandma is next door or you are having over guests and don't want anyone to keep calling to get the phone.
The Echo Plus is a very nice all-around device and a great addition to Alexa's already impressive list of cool features.
