Part of the HP LaserJet Pro MFP family of products, this multi-product printer is a budget-friendly printer that can also give you more value than first glance.

It's compatible with mobile devices, Windows PCs and Macs. You can connect your phone to the HP LaserJet Pro M148dw via Wi-Fi Direct, which is really cool.

The printer can print from a mobile device, although Android and iOS devices should have a compatible app or scanning app to make that possible. Old-school B&W printing is also possible via the HP LaserJet Pro M148dw.

The HP LaserJet Pro M148dw comes with mobile printing apps for iOS and Android.

You can also connect your Chromebooks directly to the HP LaserJet Pro M148dw via USB. Another nice feature is the wireless print utility that allows you to print documents wirelessly from any internet-connected device that is installed on the local network.

There are some limitations with this printer. First, you will have to install third-party apps in order to connect your mobile devices or 3rd-party apps (Dropbox, Google Drive) for printing from a mobile device.

After the initial setup, this printer does not need a WiFi or router connection. It can be operated off-line and still connect to a mobile or other network. The HP LaserJet Pro M148dw uses the cloud for Smart Scan and Smart Printing features.

Even though printing with this printer is fast and resource-rich, the primary thing to note is that the HP LaserJet Pro M148dw does not natively support printing with specific file types like photographs or scans. Those file types must be converted to PDFs or even jpegs beforehand.

To do so, the HP LaserJet Pro M148dw may be connected directly to a network, or via the HP C9171A USB Wireless Adapter (not included). The C9171A USB Wireless Adapter can also be applied to a laptop or desktop PC to make printing from the cloud, or even sending a file from a computer connected via USB easy, provided the PC/laptop is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

So even though this is a printer for the masses, it does not have all the bells & whistles that are available with expensive laser printers like the HP LaserJet Pro 7000 family of products.
