Here’s our review of the Southwire Company LLC 44380 Surge Guard 30A Portable.
Does the good reputation hold up or not? Let’s find out!
Pros:
- Lightweight
- Very powerful
- Built for air-conditioners
The 44380 surge protector from Southwire Company LLC is a 30A compact surge protector. While it is designed to be portable, it also packs a lot of protection into a small size. If you are someone who spends a lot of time outside, it is not a bad idea to have one of these around to protect your electronics from surges.
The Southwire Corporation is a leading maker of a variety of electrical and communication products, but especially security and medical alert devices.
The unit itself is made of a light-weight aluminum frame and has a 20,000-volt rating. It has a 10,000-volt surge warning that is also connected to the circuit line that protects the main device from surges.
The 20,000-volt rating is more than enough for most of the surge protection you will need in the home or office. If you are a professional electrician, the professional construction sites with near 50,000-volt power lines might be a bit of a stretch for this little guy, but it can handle everything else just fine.
Other features of the unit include a remote switch for easy control and four plug-in jacks and four cords. The jacks are designed to accept protectors with a 600V rating or less and Cord Length of 15 feet or less.
I like this surge protection as it is compact and has a decent amount of power for a unit that is portable. It's also pretty well built for its small size.
